QuickSwitch Routers - The Shield 64 - The second of a three part series
With high-end performance and modest pricing, the Shield64 modular routing switchers offer many features not found in competing systems of equivalent size or price. The QuickSwitch Shield64 series switchers accept up to 64 composite sources, 64 balanced or unbalanced stereo audio sources, and connect any one of the input sources to one or more of the 64 outputs. With a wide frequency response of DC to 30MHz and advanced buffering circuitry, all of the video detail the camera captures will be preserved regardless of how many outputs you send the video to.
An active/buffered matrix switcher allows one source of video to be routed to a single or many monitors without compromising signal integrity. In the case of the Shield64, it can route one camera to 64 monitors simultaneously or 64 sources of video to 64 destinations without moving a single wire or losing an ounce of signal. The Shield 64 series of high performance routing switchers comes configured standard with 30MHz video bandwidth for everyday live video surveillance applications and will also serve as the backbone of a demanding, state of the art military command and control center using high definition component video.
Quickset allows you to design the system on your own terms and within your own budget.
Unlike many competitive products in this size and price range, the modular card-frame design of the Shield 64 make servicing and troubleshooting easy. The 9RU video and audio rackframes are designed to afford maximum flexibility for expansion into the future. The open architecture of the Shield series would allow you to configure a small 8x8 video only system today, giving you the peace of mind knowing that the system won’t become obsolete when you need to expand to a fully loaded 64x64 video with balanced stereo audio a few months or years from now.
Demanding applications require robust solutions. This is one of the reasons why QuickSet builds each router with a mil-spec power supply and includes a port for an optional redundant supply when the system is considered mission critical. QuickSet modular switchers are field upgradeable. Additional modules may be added at any time without having to send the unit back to the factory.
Simple Ascii Strings (SAS) provide simple control through the standard RS-232 port. Other control options include IP (Ethernet-RJ45) control for operation over a LAN or via the Internet or with a wide variety of QuickSwitch remote keypads. The Shield is also fully compatible with all third party touch screen controllers from Creston, AMX and Leightronix.
As an option, Quickset can mount a 5” LCD monitor with headphone jack into the front panel for a quick and easy way to troubleshoot video and audio connections in large and complex systems. Also, the monitor may be used as a preview monitor to make certain a feed is active before it’s routed downstream to a video recorder or remote monitor.
To monitor audio, the Shield64 is available with ultra-low noise 3-wire balanced stereo audio or RCA-style unbalanced stereo audio. Audio can follow video or may be routed separately for maximum flexibility. Further enhancements include the optional volume and tone package, allowing for a wide variety of volume, balance, input trim and tone adjustments to match any acoustic environment.
The QuickSet Shield64 series matrix switchers provide the highest level of cost-effectiveness, flexibility, and expandability. Capable of meeting the most demanding applications, the Shield64 is poised to become the industry standard in mid-sized, modular routing switchers. By Stefan Seigel
