Moving towards the future

In 2000, QuickSet saw that there was a need to change its manufacturing department.  That year Brian Hallstrom, Vice President of Operations, joined the QuickSet team. QuickSet’s manufacturing plant had been set up with assembly lines just like Ford used at the turn of the twentieth century.  From 1933 to 2000 very little changed.  With a need to become more flexible, efficient, and reduce delivery times, a streamlined (Kan Ban) cellular fabrication scheme was introduced, which revolutionized the company.  Putting in cells and getting rid of the assembly lines was the first step towards totally order-driven assembly.  The need to embrace the idea of continuous improvement was necessary.

The ISO Certification that QuickSet received in 2003 helped facilitate the transformation.  Manufacturing has also developed a value model that is unique to QuickSet.  Some of the goals of the value model are to increase customer satisfaction, enhanced customization, and reduced lead time.  Although QuickSet’s flexibility has grown, we are still working towards greater flexibility and modularity.  We want to keep the mind set of continuous process improvement, innovative design, along with increased quality and reliability.
