Carl Diana
Carl Diana is the engineer behind the design our new product, the QPT-50. Carl has been part of the QuickSet team since 1987. In October 2004, Carl moved from the engineering department to the applications engineers department. At QuickSet he started out as an engineering clerk, then became a manufacturing engineer, moved to a cad draftsman, machine shop foreman, and then design engineer. Before working at QuickSet Carl worked at a company called Gear Systems in Lake Villa. At Gear Systems he set up the machines to make gears. Besides being part of the QuickSet team, Carl also has his own business called X-Pert Machine. X-Pert Machine makes gears. Carl has a unique advantage because his dad owned a machine shop. He became a very valuable worker because he was the only one who knew cad desk and the cam system. Because of his background in machining the cad and cam were a perfect fit for him.
One of the things Carl liked the most about being a mechanical engineer was working on Solid Works. “Solid works is very creative friendly. You can jot down an idea and you don’t have to define it. After you work out the whole idea you can go back and define it, and Solid Works makes it easy to do that.” Carl explains why he decided to change departments: “I decided to move from the engineering department to the sales application department because the more you know, the more valuable you are. Even though the change is scary, it helps you progress. I liked my old job because it was comfortable. One of the best things about the special applications department is that you get to talk to the customer and find out what the real application is.” |
